A young man who lived at Te Papapa, Patrick Teevan, died in the hospital last evening through injuries received by falling off a lorry while returning from a football match at Avondale on Satur* day. The Ruahine arrived at Wellington shortly after noon to-day from Southampton with a large number of immigrants. The Auckland contingent will arrive by the Limited express to-morrow morning. A motion of protest to the Government, and a demand for an inquiry into the granting of a license to the Ambassadors Hotel, carried at a meeting of over a thousand citizens in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. Extensive cargo pillaging discovered on the steamer Port Melbourne, which arrived on Saturday from Panama. Investigation led to the arrest of John Thomas Newberry, a member of the crew! He was remanded at the Police Court this morning.
