TAUPO FISHING.
COMPLAINTS BY ANGLERS, j, ll THE MINISTER'S ASSURANCES. | •!• (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) + WELLINGTON, this day. >■ The Taupo Anglers' Association recently protested against a proposal,' which was said to have emanated from the Government, to abolish the present short-period licenses, but the Hon. E. F. Bollard says that the Government lias no such intention. Mr. Bollard also referred to a statement credited to an American visitor— that the finest fishing in America was the sole privilege of the wea'thy, and that New Zealand was heading in the' same direction. This, also, the Mm-, ister says, is erroneous, the primary object of the negotiations with the natives and others concerned being to prevent such a state of affairs. Mr. Bollard added that requests had been received to prohibit trolling within "00 yards of any part of the shores of' Lake Taupo, but lie cou:d not agree t» this, except possibly at the mouths of streams, especially the Tongariro and Waitahanui.
