LATE MR. GOLDIE'S BEQUESTS. PARK AT WAITAKERES. BENEFITS TO INSTITUTIONS. Having won an everlasting place in the hearts of the people of Auckland for his long service to them, the late Mr. David Goldie has further perpetuated his memory by bequeathing to them a large area of native bush in the Waitakere Ranges, as well as making a number of bequests to various public institutions in the city. An announcement of .the bequests was made yesterday by Messrs. D. A. and H. T. Goldie, and Mr. J. H. C. Bond, his son-in-law, who are executors of his will.
who are executors of his will. . The area of native bush, which is to be held public reserve, contains 475 acres, and is known as Goldie's Bush. It is situated about 25 miles from the city and about four miles from the Waitakere railway station. The property has a frontage of about two miles to the Mokoroa Stream, which runs into the Waitakere River some distance below the dam. Beautiful native bush covers the whole area, which contains totara and kauri trees. There is a group of seven magnificent' kauri trees which were dedicated to the Rotary movement and to the citizens of Auckland in 1922. These trees have trunks/ from 70ft to 80ft in height, while .one has a girth of 25ft, the smallest being left. It is estimated that there is approximately 80.000 ft of millable timber in the trees. The following additional bequests have been made by the late Mr. Goldie:— Blind Institute £1.000 Auckland Museum £1,000 Karitane Home £500 Salvation Army £500 St. Mary's Homes. Otalinhu. £500 Y.W.C.A £500 Flying Angel Mission £250 V.M.C.A £250 Knox Home for Incurables.. £250 Yonnjj Citizens' I.easne £125 Boy Scout Organisation £125 In addition there is a bequest to the Alexandra Street Methodist School of ia annually for library books. A memorial service will be held in the Alexandra Street Methodist Mission Sunday School to-morrow. The late Mr. Goldie was for CO years a superintendent at the school. The speakers to-morrow will be the Rev. W. S. Potter v £ nC X_ minister of the chu rch, and Air F. Crespm, the present superintendent. Old scholars and teachers are specially invited to be present.
