WHEN STEAMER STRUCK.

BLINDING RAINSTORM. STATEMENT BY MASTER. BEHAVE SPLENDIDLY. (Wireless from "Star Reporter.) S.S. MANAIA, this day. Captain Norbury, the master or" the Manaia, said that the steamer struck the rocks during a blinding rainstorm. The passengers, fortunately, did not realise the seriousness of the position, and all, including a large number of women and girls, behaved splendidly. At the time of the accident the Manaia was proceeding full speed, and went far on to the rocks. At first it was thought possible she might slide back into deep water. The propellers were therefore kept going.
