RACECOURSE BOOTHS.
(To tne Editor.) Sir, —Tfc hag been brought to our notice that the Rev. A. P. Cowie, missioner, while giving evidence in the Ambassador Hotel application, is reported to have stated "that the men would get liquor, and not the racecourse stuff," or words to a like effect. As we conduct the racecourse bars at Ellerslie, Takapuna, and at other meetings, we feel we cannot let this remark pass unchallenged. Any racecourse bars under our control are all stocked with the best of liquors of all brands, and everything sold is true to label. It may lie news to Mr. Cowie that the details of brands in stock have to be supplied to the racing clubs from time to time, and that the Ellerslie Club has an inspector, who sees that nothing of an. inferior quality is sold. If Mr. Cowie himself would care to do'so he can inspect the booth stocks, and if _c is satisfied that the "stuff" sold is of the best quality, then we would ask him to withdraw the innuendo contained in his remarks through your paper. We feel that as in many other things people are only too willing to comment on matters upon which they have not satisfied themselves as to facts.—l am, etc., JOSEPH MOLLOY.
