A VALUELESS CHEQUE.
THREE MONTHS' HARD LABOUR. Christopher Thomas Morris, alias William Thomas, was charged, before Messrs. E. J. Farrell and E. A. Jones, justices, at Huntly, that on April 13, at Huntly, he did obtain from H. A. Clark the sum of f-5 4/ in money by means of a false pretence, to wit, a valueless cheque for the sum of £10 drawn on the Bank of New Zealand at Pukekohe. Accused pleaded not guilty. He laid that certain small sums should have been paid in to his account, and that he had received no word that his cheque had been dishonoured. He was at present servin, a sentence for failure to maintain his wife, but the amount in dispute could be paid at any time. Accused was sentenced to three !v..-itl.-" inipri-oiiiiiem with hard labour.
