Nathan and C 0. ,, the steamer Port Melbourne will arrive at Auckland to-morrow afternoon with a general cargo from London. ARAWA FOR AUCKLAND. An expected arrival at Auckland to-morrow morning is the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Arawa from Wellington. At this port the Arawa will complete discharge of her London cargo, and will commence loading for her return trip. This vessel will also take in cargo at Opua, Gisborne. Napier and Wellington, Bailing finally from Wellington for Southampton on July 6. Messrs. L. D. Nathan are the local agents. NEW MOTORSHIP OAKBAXK. ■Delivered recently to her owners, the inotorship Oakbank of 52.000 tons gross, was built by Harland and Wolff. Ltd., for the Bank Line. Acommodation of a very high standard is provided for the captain, officers, engineers and crew, and a large Insulated provision store is fitted on the upper deck. Steam is supplied from an oil-fired donkey boiler for the flre-extinguishins system, which is fitted throughout the vesflel. for heating and scouring the oil-fuel tankß, and for driving the winches and windlass. The arrangements for working the cargo are in accordance with the latest and most approved practice. The vessel is propelled by a pair of Harland-B. and W. motors similar to the machinery whifh has DPen running so satisfactorily in the large nnraher of sister vessels delivered to the Bank Une during the past few years. RIMU TO ASSIST MANAIA. A hurried departure from Auckland this morning was. the Northern Co.'s steamer Rimu. This vessel left at 0.45 a.m. with life-saving gear for the Manaia. which is at present stranded on a reef at Slipper Island. MOTORSHII* ASTURIAS. After what was described as a highly successful maiden voyage, the Royal " Mail ■Steam Packet Company's liner Asturias. the biggest motor liner in service, reached Southampton ou April 12. Throughout the voyage to Tiuenos Ayres. and back the vessel was feted continuously, and was visited by tens of thousands of sightseers. Details of the vessel's performance were kept ser-ret, although it is learnt that she had covered between 3!MI and 40i> miles per day at an average speed of about 15.7 knots, which is all that is necessary for her to maintain her schedule. At times she exceeded 16 knots. The vessel is stated to have proved most seaworthy and handy in movement, and. most gratifying of all", practically free from vibration. Sir Eustare Tennyson D'Kyncourt, a well-known figure in shipbuilding and engineering circles, who made the round trip in the Asturlas. said she had been exceedingly satisfactory, and with further development in Diesel machinery, which was as yet in its infancy, hp thought it was possible that in future years the Diesel would be adoptpd as the means at propulsion for large Atlantic liners. ■MARAMA FOR SYDX'EY.
