TRANSMISSION TOWERS.
FARMERS WANT COMPENSATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. The member for the district. Mr.' O. Stewart Keid. paid a visit to Cambridge to-Ud in connection with district needs, and the opportunity was taken by a lar K e Doay or farmers representative of the districts through which the Public Works department main transmission lines from Awapuni to Auckland traverse, to seek the member s assistance in urging the Government to set up a commission to deal with the matter of compensation for land uiKen, loss of value and general damages. Speakers said they recognised that taking tne line through was of national importance yet individuals had to be considered. Individual negotiations with the Government were not satisfactory.
Another speaker sairi it had to be recognised that the transmission lines were going to be a danger to stock and human life, ami a detriment to the value of property. Mr. Reid was asked to support the settins up of a commission consisting of two members from the parties interested and a like number to be appointed by the Government, with a chairman to be appointed by both parties.
