SMOKING ON DUTY.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I cannot understand why bus owners permit their drivers to smoke when on duty, when it is detrimental to their own business. It is a most dangerous practice, for while a driver is rolling and lighting cigarettes his attention is taken off his work, to wit taking care of the lives of his passengers; besides, it looks a very slack way of doing things. As a matter of principle I never travel in a bus, and dozens of others do likewise, which they tee the youthful driver in charge Sucking a cigarette. In the interests of public safety a by-law ought to be passed prohibiting drivers smokins on duty.— I am, etc.. MASTER MARINER.
