MOTORING MATTERS
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION" MEETS. Mr. J. A. Gillett presided over the meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. Messrs. Jones and Grayaon, the association's delegates to the conference of the North and South Island Motor Unions, recently held in Christehurch, reported on the resolutions and remits discussed and adopted. The Newmarket Borough Council wrote stating that it 'ntended to enforce the new by-law requiring stationary motor cars to stand not more than nine inches from the kerb. Concerning the association's complaint about the lighting of Upper Oueen Street, the City Council, in a letter, stated that consideration of the lighting of this street, in common with others that had electric lighting prior to the adoption of the comprehensive scheme which was now being carried out hv the Power Board, was deferred until the main scheme was completed. Meanwhile the city engineer and council's electrical engineer would go into the matter with a view to submitting proposals and estimates for consideration by the council. However, no provision had been made for increased expenditure in Upper Queen Street during the current financial year. Permission for the association to appoint a caretaker to look after private motor cars parked in Symonds Street above Grafton Bridge was given by the City Council. The secretary was authorised to appoint two caretakers, one for Symonds Street, and one for the Civic Square. The association was advised by the registrar of motor vehicles that license fees neod not be paid for vehicles not in commission.
