CATHOLIC SCHOOLS' CARNIVAL

REALISES £8000. The six-nights' carnival in aid of the Roman Catholic, Schools, ended in the Town Hall on Saturday evening, before a packed audience. To date, the profit accuring from the carnival is £8000. The Queen Carnival resulted:— Princess Yola Cunningham, St. Patrick's parish, 118,765 votes, 1; Princess Doreen O'Sullivan, Manukau group, including Parnell, Remuera, Epsom, Onehunga and Otahuhu parishes, 107,555 votes. 2; Princess Eileen Kelly, St. Benedict's 73,701 votes, 3; Princess Inia Casey, Ponsonby, 69,613 votes, 4; and Princess Clarice La wry, Grey Lynn, 47,064 votes, 5. On Saturday afternoon was held the baby show, for which there were 89 entries. The cup for babies aged from 12 months to two years, was won by the 13-months-old son of Mrs. Rowe, 68, Vincent Street, while the 16-months-old daughter of Mrs. McCabe, 26, Enfield Street, Mount Eden, was second. The eight-m-nths-old daughter of Mrs. Macken, 72, Summer Street, Parnell, won the cup for babies under one year, the five-months-old son of Mrs. Morn, 10. St. Mary's Road, Ponsonby, being second.

There were so many entries for the baby crawling championship, which caused considerable amusement, that it had to be decided in heats. Finally. Donald Stevens, aged nine months, of 40, Wariki Road, Mount Eden, romped home an easy winner, with Tony Thompson, aged eight months, of 8, Dryden Street, Grey Lynn, second. A presentation was made by Chancellor Holbrook. chairman of the executive committee, to Mrs. E. Summer* ville, who designed tbe costumes for the grand march and minuet. Reference

was also made to the excellent assistance given by Captain Redmond, Miss Daphne Knight and others who gave their services. Special reference must be made to the untiring energy of the Rev. Dr. Buxton, the general secretary, whose organising work was largely responsible for the" success of thcarnival.
