INFECTIOUS DISEASES

AUCKLAND MONTHLY RETURNS.

Monthly reports of the district medical officers of health in the Auckland province, issued on June 5, show that there were 17 cases of diphtheria, and 11 cases of puerperal septicaemia in the Central Auckland health district. There was only one case of influenza pneumonia, and five eases of pneumonia. South Auckland reported ten cases of diphtheria, and one case of puerperal septicaemia.

In the North Auckland health district there were four cases of diphtheria and three cases of puerperal septicaemia, together with three cases of pneumonia. The Coromandel-Opotiki health district reported one case of pneumonic influenza, one case of septicaemia, and six cases of pneumonia.

Dr. Thos. J. Hughes, Medical Officer of Health for the Central Auckland health district, as well as the Soutl Auckland district, has supplied the following return of all infectious cases in the month under review.

Central Auckland Health District.— Scarlet fever 5, diphtheria 17, tuberculosis !), lethargic encephalitis 5, Puerjieral septicaemia 4, influenza pneumonia 1, pneumonia 5. erysipelas 4, septicaemia following mismarriage 7, ophthalmia neonatorum 1, eclampsia 1, dysentery 5. Total of 64 cases. South Auckland Health District.- — Scarlet fever 9, diphtheria 10, enteric fever 4, tubercolosis 9, puerperal septicaemia lj pneumonia 1, erysipelas 1, trachoma 1, eclampsia 1. Total of 37 cases. The following is a complete return showing the number of cases of infectious disease notified to Dr. Herbert Chesson, medical office, of health for the North Auckland and Coromandel-Opotiki health districts for the past month:— North Auckland Health District.— Scarlet fever 7, diphtheria 4, tuberculosis 2, puerperal septicaemia 2, pneumonia 3, erysipelas 2, septicaemia following miscarriage 1, ophthalmia neonatorum 1. Total of 22 cases. Coromandel-Opotiki Health District. — Scarlet fever 3, diphtheria 11, tuberculosis 2, influenza (pneumonic, etc.) 1, pneumonia 6, erysipelas 1, septicaemia following miscarriage 1. Total of 25 cases.
