SURPRISE AT SHORE.
Fj-om the kick. off Y.M. attacked. Russell's centre being sent over by Booth. Play then veered to mid-field for a time, until Baxter set Shore away, Dacre missing the goal. A fine run by Booth and Mellor on the wing was sent over. Back came Shore to the attack. Lucas saving a good one from Palmer. The game to this stage had heen very even. Then Humphreys pnt Y.M. on attack, and Lipscombe saved from Mellor. Lewis. V.M.'s left half, was playing a heady game, as was Baxter for Shore, a long shot from the latter being saved by Lucas. A mistake by V.M.'s right back saw Heyes miss an easy chance, and Lewis cleared twice in succession. At this stase Shore were having the best of matters. Gerrard's long clearing kicks being effective. Humphreys came back and helned V.M.'s defence, saving a critical situation. Later on Lucas saved brilliantly from Woolley and Palmer. Dick let Y.M. away. and Humphreys was nearly through. Passing to Mellor the .alter shot over. Shore returned, and Gebbie miss-kicking, nearly let Woolley in. Shore got a corner, from which T.ncas saved brillinntlv. Shore kept on attack, hut hril hant defensive work by Lncas and Lewis Vent them out. One** broke np a strnn. Shore attack, with Dacre. Palmer, and Hr-->« in the vnn Shortly afterwards half-time sounded with go score. On resuming, Shore attacked, Clanachan saving, but a mistake by Otter gave Heye« an easy goal. Shore kept attacking, Lucas saving weU. Shore kept on the attack but Lewis, V.M.'s left-half, was working like a Trojan, and held them up well. V.M set up a strong attack, Humphreys and Milne combined, Milne putting in a beauty, which struck the bar—a great «,} ™ The € ame was fast U P and down field. Dacre shooting over. Clanachan let I.M. away, Lipscombe saving from Humphreys, but Humphreys, not to be denied, scored. x.M. l. Shore 1. V.M were playing splendidly, putting up a dour defence, and breaking away in dangerous movements, Milne. Humphreys and Mellor' being ci oS e to scoring. Shore came again Dacre passed to Woolley. but Lucas saved Lucas was giving a magnificent exhibition of goal-keeping Clanachan was feeding Humphreys well, and the centre just StbE* vv rar<3 beld up a stron S -"J----attack. Y.M. were now playing the better football. Shore's forwards hay Inlost combination. Clanachan made a great run From a melee in Shore's goalmouth Humphreys again scored. Shore now attacked.
