(Received. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 4. The removal of - pit ponies' fodder from: South Wales mines has driven thousands of ravenous rats to the surface. They are invading the houses in the vicinity necessitating a strong guard of terriers at the pit heads. A colliery farrier accompanied by dogs descended a mine and swarms of rats furiously: attacked htm and drove him to the surface. Owners fearing the rats will be wild enough to attack miners returning to work have organised an extermination campaign.—( A. and N.Z.)
