A little girl of 14 years came before ,them to answer a charge of using a second-class fifce school ticket to travel between Henderson and Newmarket without being entitled to do so. Senior Serjeant Edwards said the girl had forged the name of a teacher to a certificate so that she could be issued with the ticket by the stationmaster. She had been keen to change from one school to another, and in her eagernes3 she had forged the niime so that the ticket could be obtained in quick time. The Bench explained :o the girl the gravity of her offence. Had she been charged with forgery the Children's Court could not have dealt with her, and she would have been sent to the Supreme Court. However, the Bench considered that the girl did not realise that she was forging a name. The case had been brought about with a view to making other children realise the enormity of the offence.
