LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT.
, COLLISION AT HIKUKANGL • CAR BADLY DAMAGED. I {By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A collision bet-ween a motor car, •wned and driven by Mr. Claud C. Dyeart, of Wnananaki, and the southbound Auckland express occurred at McLeod's Crossing, Hikurangi, yesterday, fortunately without serious personal injury, although the car was badly damaged. Besides the driver the car contained five lady passengers, including lire, and Miss Dysart. The driver of the car suddenly noticed the approach of the train, and. by a eharp turn, endeavoured to avoid an impact. The engine caught the side of ■the car, throwing it against a telegraph post with such violence that the post was broken off ehort. The side of the car nearest the engine and the front and rear wheels were smashed. The train was stopped immediately after the collision, when it was found that the only personal injury involved was shock to the occupants of the car, and an abrased arm of Mr. Dysart, driver of the car. Under the circumstances the occupants had a miraculous escape from more serious injury. The crossing 'where the collision occurred is an oblique one, towards which the railway track and the main north road gradually converge, and i= on th<» outskirts of Hikurangi township The crossing « regarded as dangerous!
