BROKEN BY-LAWS,

The crop of offenders agai-nst the city by-laws at the Police Court this morning was not quite as large as has been thp case on previous Wednesdays. Mr. !•'. K. Hunt, S.M.. dealt with those cases in which Senior Sergeant Edwards prosecuted. John Bryan, for whom Mr. Moody appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligent driving. After lengthy evidence had been heard, defendant was given the benefit of the doubt, the charge being dismissed. Onslow Edney, on a charge of not having a driver's license* was mulcted in a fine of £1 and costs, while for falling to produce his drivers license wnin it was demanded by a constable, John Ross was fined 10/, "plus costs. Speeding on the Great South Road cost Leonard Rae a fine of £1 and Cr=tS. W. M. Taylor w.l? fined 10/ and costs for leaving his motor-car within twenty feet of a street corner, and was ordered to pay costs for leaving the vehicle unattended. 'When charged with allowing his bus to stand on the intersection of Queen and Customs Streets, A. Manson, for whom Mr. Marshall White appeared, pleaded not guilty, stating that three young women attempted to board the vehicle and he was compelled to pull up to save running over them. The charge was dismissed. A fine of €2. plus costs, was imposed on 11. (;. Matthews on a charge of passing a stationary tram car. L. and F. Stead "wei'e each fined 10/ and costs for pillion riding.
