QUEST FOR BIG FISH.
MR. ZANE GREY PREPARES.
SELECTION OF LAUNCHES
Mr. Zane Grey, who is to return to New Zealand towards the end of the present year in hie schooner Fisherman, has already made arrangements for his quest for the big fish. . Before he left the Dominion several weeks ago, Mr. Grey arranged for next season's charter of the launch Alma G, in which he made all his big catches during his last visit. In speaking with the builders of the launch, Mr. Grey said that the Alma G was the best boat he had ever used. For that reason he was taking the precaution of again chartering her before the next season commenced.
Three launches, of the same design as the Alma G, are at present under construction at Auckland. The first of the trio is expected to be ready for launching within three months. The launches, which have been specially designed for swordfish and mako shark fishing, are being built on the concave-convex principle. Several suggestions made by Mr. Grey will be embodied in the boats, which will be 36ft in length with an Bft 9in beam. Six-cylinder engines of approximately 70 h.p. will be installed. One of the three launches now being built will be used by Mr. Grey's brother, who is to accompany the expedition in December next. The party will also have at its dispeosal the three launches which are carried on the Fisherman. These, however, may not be suitable for the New Zealand fishing.
