THE SHAW, SAVILL MOTOR SHIPS. It is interesting to note, states an exchange, that the installation of the two *>0 000-ton motor ships, which the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. have ordered, the one from the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co., and the other from Swan, i Hunter and Wlgham-Richardson, is to be i very similar to that of the Fairfleld-bullt • Aorangl, which is already well known in s Australian waters and which has made a preat impression by her reliability. Instead i of arranging a twin-screw Installation, with high cylinder powers, or double-acting engines, the owners have planned a four--screw Sulzer arrangement, by which the ■ power of each engine is kept within moderate limits. Considering the long sea lanes over which these ships will hare to travel, without any hope of repair facilities. It is highly probable that this arrangement although it appejirs conservative and to some almost is by far the safest and wisest plan. The Aorangl has repeated the proof of older vessels that a Diesel engine of this size can be relied upon absolutely, and even if one motor falls the difference to the power of the ship is comparatively small.
