j REVOLUTIONISTS' ACTIVITY. I I CAPTURE OF A TOWN. (Received 10 a.m.) MANAGUA (Nicaragua), May 4. The Niearaguan Congress on Tuesday declared the country to be in a state of war. i The President authorised a levy against the citizens of 500,000 dollars to cover war expenses. • The United States Government, in I order to safeguard American interests, on Tuesday ordered a cruiser to Bluefields, Nicaragua, which was captured by revolutionists after fighting during which two. were killed and several wounded.— (A. and N.Z.) Nicaragua was constituted a Republic on April 5. 1913. The President is Sentor Carlos Solorzano, who was elected for four years in 102; l. The area of the country is 51.G60 English square miles, and the population G35.119. The people are principally of. mixed Indian ana Spanish extraction, but there are a considerable number of pure Spanish descent and many full-blooded Indians. The capital and seat of Government is the town of Managua, situated on the southern border of the lake of that name, with about 28,000 inhabitants. Bluefields is the principal seaport on tlie east coast.
