The area of the country is 51.G60 English square miles, and the population G35.119. The people are principally of. mixed Indian ana Spanish extraction, but there are a considerable number of pure Spanish descent and many full-blooded Indians. The capital and seat of Government is the town of Managua, situated on the southern border of the lake of that name, with about 28,000 inhabitants. Bluefields is the principal seaport on tlie east coast.
