POWER FOR HELENSVILLE,

DAIRY FARMING LOAD.

ALTERNATIVE PATMENT BASES

BUTTERFAT AND DIETER RATES.

Farmers in the Waitemata power district lire to have the option of purchasing power for their milking motors on either the "butterfat rate" or the meter rate, except that all farmers who are gelling the whole or any part of their supply for local milk consumption will be required to adopt the meter rate. Thi= was fixed at the meeting of the Power Board yesterday afternoon at £6 16/ per annum per horse-power of connected load, plus a unit rate of 3*d for the first 100 unit? per month, and lid for all over 100 units per month. A discount of 12A per cent is to be allowed | for prompt payment. The engineer, Mr. W. P. Gauvain, said the alternative rate was no cheaper, and made little difference to the dairyman or the board, except that the latter would require to send an official to read tbe meters periodically. He added that all milking machine motors must be 2 h.p., 40 degrees C. rating, which could be supplied by the board at standard prices. No other size or type would be allowed, except by a permit in writing from the board. In order to standardise tie motors throughout the board's area, it was essential that farmers should make application for motors as early as possible, so that the board might call tenders for these. The board decided that the canvasser Bhould proceed to the Parkhurst district at once, in order to complete the canvass in a few days. The chairman stated that the 11,000----volt line to Helensville was being expedited. The engineer stated that all the 35ft natural round poles on board the Omana, now en route to Auckland, would be dispatched to convenient stations for the Helensville line. There waa still a batch of poles about Waimauku and Kumeu with the idea of getting to Helensville as soon as possible. The Helensville representatives mentioned a proposal to light with electricity the Hot Springs Domain and buildings, including the bowling green.
