DISCOLOURED WATER
SLIPS AT NIHOTUPU.
NEED OF FILTRATION.
POLL ON APRIL 14
The need of filtering the city water has again been brought home to the authorities and the consumers gener- .;.!> in ihe cuurse of the Easter sea- ••!■. The rains of last week, following a long spell of dry weather, caused - "!•■ slips on the banks of the Nihotupu Dam, and a noticeable discoloration of the water resulted. I Tiie water has been somewhat disj coloured throughout the holidays; and it is to be observed that such discoloration is quite unavoidable in the i ircumstances. : Referring to the matter to-day the Mayor (Mr. Geo. Baildon) remarked that it -was in connection with contingencies of this kind that the benefits of a system of filtration plants would be particularly obvious. Provision for installing plants for filtering tlie water both at Nihotupu and Waitakere is made in the loan proposals that will be submitted to the city ratepayers in eight days' time. ! The amount involved in the city water pool is £470,000, £400.000 of which is the estimated expendi- j ture for augmenting the muni- 1 cipal water supply by the Huia dam scheme. The remaining £70,000 is for : J the proposed filter systems. The poll i will be taken on Wednesday, April 14.
