MELBOURNE MAN'S DEATH. 1

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday.

An inquest was opened to-day regarding the death of Mr. Edgar Clarke, described as an auctioneer and member of the St. Kilda Council, Melbourne, who was found on the river bank on Saturday with his wrist deeply cut. Deceased arrived in Christchureh on March 26 and remained in bed at his hotel for four days on account of illness. One witness described him as a bundle of nerves. Mr. Clarke was admitted to the hospital, but collapsed before an operation could be performed.

The inquest was adjourned sine die.
