BENZINE PUMPS AND PRICE.
(To Uie Eaitor.l Sir,—The attention of my association has been directed to Mr. J. G. Haddow's letter in your issue of the 27th inst., under this heading. Mr. Haddow's comments on the modest reticence of members of the motor trade in respect to a reduction of price in petrol for bulk deliveries has apparently been made without a full knowledge of the facts placed before the Auckland City Council at its meeting on the 18th met. Naturally the report of the deputation's statements appearing in the newspapers on the 19th inst.; was a very condensed one. The deputation did put before the | Council the fact that in Wellington, which is the only centre properly equipped for the sale of petrol in bulk, the price has been reduced 3/ per unit of eight gallons, less than case petrol, i It haa been the policy of motor traders to regulate the price of petrol in accordance with the prices from time to time fixed by the wholesale oil distributors, and for many years the retail cash price of petrol from members of the motor trade has not shown a greater gross profit than 3d. per gallon. I am, etc., IVO B. D. ESAM. Secretary, Auckland Motor Trade Association.
