ROWING.
A QUIET EASTER. AMONGST THE CLUBS.
Local rowing circles were very quiet during the holidays, as many oarsmen preferred a change from town before preparing for their winter sport. The Aiickland Rowing Club's trial fours produced a good standard of rowing, but unfortunately the final was suddenly robbed of what promised a most exciting finish. The two crews had raced on even terms until the last two hundred yards were entered. Coutts' crew then
C. C. CAIRNS, Captain of the Waitemata Boating Club. shot forward, but just as suddenly a few strokes later stopped dead. The coxswain had missed seeing a mooring buoy and the boat ran through the loop and settled the crew's chances. Eaddy's crew simply had to row on to claim the trophies..
North Shore held a set of sculling trials, and although the rowing was good the handicap proved too much for the scratch man.
Waitemata will finish their racing programme next Saturday with a set of trial fours for trophies donated by Mr. H. Buck, a vice-president. St. George's have one more set of trials to complete the season's programme.
West End have yet several trophies to decide, and if the weather conditions are in the least favourable the programme should be completed by the end of the month.
The Soft Goods Inter-house crews are in steady training, and judging by their work a most open race is promised.
