The Mastertnn Athletic Club retains possession of the McViily Shield, having proved; the champion country club on the showgrounds to-day, by a substantial margin of points, scoring 106 against 65 by Manawatu Club, the most formidable competitor. In the running meeting held under the suspires of thp Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, th* chief attraction for the 2000 spectators was the appearance of Randolph A. Rose, who competed in the mile and three miles, and was also a member of the Masterton team in the interclnb relay. A cold wind made conditions unpleasant, and militated against th<> making of anything like record tim«>s. most of these being under the standard. Kos«
