HUGE NEW LINER.
SHIPBUILDERS EXCITED.
BELFAST, February 12.
Belfast shipbuilding quarters were greatly exercised to-day by a report that the White Star Company propose to order from Harland and Wolff a new vessel larger than the Majestic, which is 56,551 tons. Officials at the Queen's Island yard, when questioned about the report, refused to confirm it or deny it. In well informed quarters this evening the report was generally accepted as accurate. The assumption is that the new vessel will be approximately (JO.OOO tons and 950 feet long. At the present price of labour and raw material the ship will cost between 2* millions and three millions. At least two years will lapse between the laying of the keel and the trial trip. The two slips on which the White Star liners Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic were built have been lying idle for a long time and the proposed new boat could be constructed on either of them.
