ATTEMPT TO WRECK TRAIN. BEAMS ACROSS THE LINE. SMASHED BY ENGINE. TRAIN ESCAPES DERAILMENT. ' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. ' Another attempt at railway derailment similar to that which occurred on March 8, when a cattle stop rails wera placed across tbe metals at Terrace End and Kelvin Grove Road crossings, wag perpetrated at a crossing two miles on the Feilding side of Bunnythorpe this morning. The engine on the early goods train, which leaves Palmerston North at 3.3() a.m. for Marton, crashed into some obstructions at the crossing mentioned, about 4.30, tbe effect being similar to that when the Limited express met lika trouble at Terrace End and Kelvin Grove. Again there was a fortunate escape from derailment. A •■Standard" reporter who investi* gated the matter learned that sis wooden cattle stop beams that had been laid across the permanent way, were smashed, scattered by the bogey wheels of the engine. The individuals concerned did not stop at that, for it is stated the signal wires at Bunnythorpe station were cut. The police are investigating to-day.
