SCHOOLS COMMITTEES.
» - MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. MATTERS FOR CONSIDERATION. The following are among the remits which will he considered at the quarterly meeting of the Primary Schools' Committees' Association next week. The Albany School Committee will move that "as under present conditions the upper standards of many country schools cannot be conveyed to a High School, and as very many scholars passing out of these isolated schools are anxious to continue their education, and, considering the high stage of perfection to which teaching by correspondence has now been brought, the Minister of Education be asked to consider a scheme of teaching by correspondence." The Cambridge Committee is of the opinion that "the action of the Auckland Education Board in granting only one week's holiday in May is not in the best interests of the children, and that the board be requested to extend the holiday to two weeks." It also proposes that -'travelling allowances should be paid for all children who reside two miles or over from the school." The Onehunga District Schools' Committee advances "that this association is not in favour of the appointment of married lady teachers, unless such teachers are in need of support." A recommendation from the executive to the effect that "the February holidays be fixed so that they are not left to the option of the committee, but that they he uniform and coincide with Grammar School holidays," will also be j considered.
