THE FRESHENS' MUG.
ANNUAL DEBATING CONTEST. An annual debating contest. In which the freshers ef the Auckland University College Debating -Society contended - for the freshers' mug. a silver cup presented by Sir. A. B. Thompson, was held in the music hall of the college on Wednesday evening. The subject of the debate was. "That Woman Has More Than Come Into Her Own." Mr. S. F. Meitl.ejohn (president of the Students' Association) presided, and Mr. Tbomp___n (president of the Debating Society) awed as judge. An amustnjj debate resulted. The affirmative speakers were Misses F. Homer and R. Walker, and Messrs. T. A. Tait and E. P. Will?: and the nezative, .Miss H. West, and Messrs. X. Taylor, I. HalL and L. Usher. Miss Walker won the freshers' mug. with Mr. Usher second. In giving his decision, the judge warmly con_raral_-ted all the speakers upon their performances.
