TROTTING.
WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES. (By ORION.) FIXTURES. April 3, 7—N.z. Metropolitan Trotting Club. April, 3, s—Hawera5 —Hawera Trotting Club. April 17—Eliesmere Trotting Club. Handicaps for the Cambridge Trotting Club's meeting will be declared by -Mr. F. W. Edwards on Wednesday next. The North Canterbury-owned pacer, Yen, has joined F. Holmes', junior's, team. There is very little doing at Epsom just now as the majority of trainers are away assisting at the Hawera meeting. However, they will all be back by Tuesday, and with the Cambridge meeting coming along, there will be plenty doing at Alexandra Park next week. Though beaten at the Wellington meeting the champion threc-ycar-oid. Native Chief, will be a warm proposition for the Champion Stakes, to be decided at the Metropolitan meeting a' Addington, which opens to-day. It i■l'd the speedy pacer is not partial to n. frrass track and always does much ' ol ier on dirt. The Taranaki sportsman, Mr. J. R. f'orriTan, will bold a sale of trottinc ?tc.elc at .Hawera on Monday. Mr. Torri•ran has been lirce-iinrr on a hi? seal" mtp year?, with the result thnt he has pothered about h'~i too many horses fo mcc Many nf those to be offered or sale are h-ed in 'he purnle. \monrr Ihosp which have '■.iced nr° Peterson, The Tijjor. and Sister Ppntrio". THE SYDNEY THOUSAND. The Sydney Thousand will he run at Victoria Park. Pvdnev. on Tnosrlav next md when the Inst mail left there wor" 37 hnr=p« still enfirarrod in the imnortanl event. However, it was expected th.i'
a number of those weuld be withdrawn before the day of the race, and the opinion was expressed that the field on Tuesday would possibly be on the small side. A past winner of tthe Thousand in Machine Brick is on the back mark, 108 yds behind, and in commenting upon his chance an Australian writer said that some idea of his pace is evident from the fact that he is asked to c<>aesde Harold Pronto 48yds. Harold Pronto is undoubtedly one of the fastest pacers in Victoria. Machine Brick's task seems too big for him. Twelve months ago Harold Pronto ran fourth in the Sydney Thousand off 30yds, but he has improved considerably since then. The only State in the Commonwealth not represented is West Australia. Although bred in Australia Stroller has been for some time racing in New Zealand and therefore his run will be interesting to enthusiasts on this side of the Tasman.
