GOOD FINISH BEFORE EASTER. MORE BUSINESS DONE. The week before the Easter vacation saw good business transacted on 'Change. The 5 per cent War Loans, 1927, were placed at £98, and the 4i per. cent at -96 10/. Buyers offered £95 for Auckland Power Board 5J per cent debentures and £97 for the Hospital Board issue at the same rate of interest. Auckland Harbour Board 4 per cent debentures are wanted at £84 10/, and business was done in Auckland City 4 per cent debentures at £95 10/ and £96. Buyers came in again for P and O. debenture stock at £225, and for Loan and Mercantile Agency at £94 for ordinary, and £78 for preference stock. Colonial Sugar Refining Coy. shares are now offered at £53 10/. i Banking shares had a fair amount of business this week, National Bank of Australia contributing issue were transferred at £8 19/ aud more were i offered at 2/ advance upon that figure. National Bank of New Zealand shares j had several sales at £0 15/, and Bank of New South Wales changed hands at £44 2/6. A number of transactions occurred in Bank of New Zealand shares at 60/3. Insurance shares arc popular at the 1 present time. New Zealands sold at 39/0 and 39/9, while for South British, : "37/3 was paid. Standard Insurance ! met with steady demand at 50/. with jno quoted sellers. For National Insur- , anee 78/6 is the buying figure. Fairly large parcels of Wilson's cement changed hands during the week at 36/0, and Bycroft, Ltd., sold at 28/ G. A lot of Auckland Gas shares have been transferred at 22/3 und 22/4, while the contributing issue were placed at 8/ and 8/1. | Coal shares are not receiving much 1 attention on 'Change, the only sale | this week being in Taupiris at 16/9. L.OB. Timber shares advanced to sales at 43/ and Kauris are still wanted' at 33/. Devonport Steam Ferry shares •sold at 27/3, aud Northern Steam at 15/4, while 44/9 was paid for Huddart Parker Steam. Sales were made of New Zealand Breweries at 59/ and of the debenture stock at 26/ and 26/1. A j transaction wias reported in Staples I Brewery shares at 40/. I Inquiry set in this week for shares !in the Mosgiel Woollen Coy., at £5 17/6, and for Wellington Woolien £6 is still , offered, for both issues. I Taranaki Oil shales improved in price this week in sympathy with an upward move in Australia. Sales were made from 8/C to 9/6 during the last couple of days, and the market closed with buyers at 9/3. Waihi shares also firmed in price, sales being made up to 23/9. PREFERENTIAL TARIFF. NEW REGULATIONS. - - From to-day the new reg-ulatlons in regard to the conditions under which British goods enteritis: the ' Dominion get the benefit of preferential treatment come into force. At least 50 per cent of the (roods must have been the- product or British labour, as against 25 per cent in the past. * British preferential duty now applies to the following-:—(a) Goods wholly the produce of British countries; (b): goods wholly Manufactured In British countries from British materials; (c) {roods manufactured in British countries from foreign raw material or from certain specified rorelgn partly-manufactured materials; (d) goods which have undergone their final process of manufacture In British countries. It is the last class that the 50 per cent requirement affects.
