OUT FOR TWO YEARS.
GOULBURN CUP SEQUEL RUNNING OF INIA'S BOY. OWNER, TRAINER, AND JOCKEY DISQUALIFIED. Quite a sensation has been caused in racing circles in New South Wales by the disqualification of Inia's Boy. winner of tlie Goulburn Cup recently, bis owner, Mr. A. S. Isaacs, the trainer (P. Coffey), and the jockey (R. J. Marsden) for two years. Inia's Boy was started in tbe Bookmakers' Purse, on the first day of the Coulbum meeting, and was made second favourite, but was beaten out of a place. On the second day be contested tbe Goulburn Cup. and the Repartee gelding, according to Australian files, started favourite, and on the soft track did much better, winning nicely from Diamond Plume. A Sydney writer says that inconsistent running is so seldom the cause of disqualification in that State that tbe result of the Inia's Boy inquiry has caused a real sensation. Mr. N. V. Dcv-
lin. the S.D.R.A. stipendiary steward, adjourned the inquiry in the first instance in order that lie might consult the A.J.C. officials, but it was freely rumoured in Sydney that lie had expressed his own opinion that the case was one meriting two years' disqualification.' The belated announcement that all parties, including a bookmaker-owner, a trainer, and a jockey, had been sent out for two years did not. therefore, come as a surprise. Ali: Isaacs, owner of Inia's Boy, is a well-known Sydney bookmaker. He bets in the paddock at suburban, provincial, and trotting meetings, and he is licensed for the St. Leger reserve at Randwiek. For many years he has raced horses; at Sydney fixtures, but he has been a consistent supporter of the country race meetings as well, and Ms colours were known in nearly all parts of the State. In the case under notice, it is understood, that the defence to the allegations was that Inia's Boy's improved form on the second day was due to the heavy going. In his earlier career in Sydney his best performances were registered when the tracks were soft. Pat Coffey, the trainer, prepared his horses at Kensington, and had met with considerable success at country meetings, where he seemed to be able to gauge the form to a nicety. He had won good races in Sydney with Jarnac, Elkin, Volpi, Mistretta, and others. R. J. Marsden, rider of Inia's Boy in the fateful race, is one of Sydney's bestknown jockeys. He has been for several seasons leading horseman to the
stable presided over by his uncle, F. J. Marsden, and he has Avon such important events as the Newmarket Handicap, the Anniversary Handicap, Tattersall's Cup, the Villiers Stakes, the Challenge Stakes, the Chelmsford Stakes, etc. Inia's Boy first raced in the Northern Rivers, and on arrival in Sydney he went into J. Barden's stable. He won two sprint events at Randwick, and then twice changed hands before being purchased by Mr. Isaacs. Shortly before he scored in. the Goulburn Cup he had been successful in the. Bathurst Cup It w.stated that the parties'intend to lodge appeals immediately.
