CONDENSED CORRESPONDENCE.
"Observer," who is on public works in the King Country, asserts that new arrivals are always sure of a job, whereas every other applicant, married or single, has been assured for some time past that there will be no vacancies before March 31. Also the Department, in the matter of bathing facilities, and in other directions, falls far behind the provisions made for the comfort of men by private employers. "Sunshine" makes a strong plea, for the introduction of daylight saving, so that the working man shall have more leisure during daylight to pursue games or follow his hobbies.
