SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.
(To the Editor.l Sir, —T am indeed pleased to see that one Adventist has the courage to defend his convictions. Your correspondent, "Light." says: "Adventists claim to be a missionary people .. . the money collected is spent on missions , . . and the phenomenal growth of Adventism testifies to these facts." The first claim that they are a mission- ' ary people is very misleading. Every Christian knows how the multiplicity of sects is terribly confusing to the average person to-day; but this is much more so when the white man presents his gospel to the heathen. In order to present some sort of unity in missionary effort, the Churches agreed to allot each denomination certain territory. Thus the Solomon Islands were given portion ■to Methodist* and portion to the Roman Church. Adventists would not agree to this united missionary effort, but they go Tight in on top of the Methodists in the Solomon Islands and commence teaching that the Methodists arc all wrong. They teach Methodist natives that their gospel is all wrong, that Soman and Methodist are both Babylon. The true Church, says the Adventist missionary, must liavc a prophet, and we have that infallible prophet, and our Church is the infallible Church, the voice of God. These high claims carry with the natives as they do with simple Europeans, who do not investigate for themselves. So Seventh Day Adventists become the authors and spreaders of confusion instead of preachers of the Gospel. The passion of Adventists is eolely for the spread of their own doctrine, which, as I have said before, they do not take from the Bible, but from Mrs. E. G. White. If it is Christ, and iHim crucified which they preach, why do they overlap every other denomination and proselytise everywhere they go ' to such an extent that 50 per cent oE their members to-day are people who '■ nave been taken from other CTiurehcs. Do Methodists not preach Christ and Him crucified? Why, then, do Adven- , tists come in and spoil tho work of preaching Christ with the story of their infallible Church and prophetess. "Light" asks is my own denomination without error and infallible.- There is only one denomination that claims to be infallible; that is the Seventh Day Adventist. They have the infallible prophetess, the Church is the voice of God, and the General Conference the highest authority God has on earth. The claim of the Roman Church (whom Adventists say is of the devil) is nothing beside their claim, as the Pope only claims infallibility when speaking from the chair of St. Peter. —I am, etc., LET THERE BE LIGHT.
