NEWMARKET COUNCIL.

RATES REMITTED. At last night's meeting of tie •Newmarket Borough Council, the Mayor fMr. S. Donaldson) presided. In a letter to the council the .f rime Minister stated that representations made by the council on the question of summer time had been referred to the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. BoUard). A letter ■was received from Mr. J. A. Lee. M.P., stating that although he voted against the Summer Time Bill last session, lie intended to vote for the second Teading next session, with the object of throwing the onus on the Government to accept or reject the measure. He reserved the right to recast his vote at a later stage if he felt so inclined. Council resolved tha.t accumulated rates and charges amounting to £246 be remitted and written off.
