OBITUARY.

MR. W. T. McLAUGHLAN. The funeral or the late Mr. W. T. MaLaughlan left the residence of his daughter, Mrs. K. E. Taylor, Bellvue Road, Mount Eden, yesterday afternoon for Purewa Cemetery. Deceased was one of . the noted whips of Auckland in the days when communication was mostly done by horse-drawn buses. A native of Victoria, Mr. McLaughlan landed at Port Chalmers in 1862, when a boy 13J years of age. Later he was on the West Coast goldfields. Hβ used to sell the result of his wash-up at Kumara to " Dick" Seddon, who was later the Prime Minister of New Zealand. The Thames field attracted Mr. McLaughlan to this end of New Zealand and he drove for G. and F. Quick, also for W. Couther. Later Mr. McLaughlan was with the firm of Pullen and Armitage when the Duke of Edinburgh visited New Zealand. Mr. McLaughlan was one of the petitions. He was wont to claim that he had driven all Governors from Sir George Bowen, down to Lord Onslow.
