DEER HERDS.

INCREASE IN WANGANUL THTNTNG-OUT SUGGESTED. 7 (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. The fallow deer herd established in the Wanganui district some years ago has now spread over a wide area, and tie animals have become co plentiful that some farmers advocate an open season to lessen their numbers. Recently, at Raorikia, 20 miles up the Wang&wai River, three herds numbering 12, 18, and 20 were seen, while near the same locality 20 more animals were seen to swim in single file across the river to the Waitotara side. The Zambur deer liberated in the Manawatu district some years ago are also now spreading up the coast, and several animals have been seen recently in the swamps on the coast north of Wanganui. These animals are not yet considered numerous enough to have protection withdrawn.
