Inspector Eccles, who is in charge of the East Coast Police District, with Gisborne as his headquarters, is at present on a visit of inspection to the Bay of Plenty. It is about 20 years since Mr. Eccles was stationed at Whakatane as- a constable. At that time he was the only officer doing duty for the whole of the Whakatane County. This is his first visit since that time, and he was much impressed with the growth of the borough of Whakatane, which 20 years ago was only a email village.
