MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.
I I A meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board was held Inst night, when there were present: Messrs. G. E. Tansley, J.P. (chair- . muu). K. J. Herd. \V. W. Kerr. E. Brewer. jT. S. Lamont, S. Scarborough and J. J, : I Fronton. I Bouzhie Bowsers. —Permission was given [to the proprietors of two motor garages to i erect benzine bowsers on the kerbline. one lin Manukau Road, and tlie other in Mount ! Albeit Kofirt. 11 was agreed to accept the i ' agreement reached at the recent conference .of local bodies, held at Newmarket, to charge £' 10/ per annum for each pump. ' I The same conditions to apply to pumps on • private properties. A legal opinion was , read to the effect that the board had power to grant this permission bo long as it did not impede traffic, and was revocable at > the -will of the local authority. , Drainage.—A communication was re- • ceived from Mr. J. Rogerson with regard to , I the eolnbined drainage scheme of Mount ' Kden. Mount Albert and the western por--1 ' tion of Mount Eoskill. The chairman re«'marked that th< estimated cost to Mount , I Koskill would bi\ ?bout £7000. The drainage jj of the western irea would be carried as ■! far as Wajkowi ii and would have to be 1. carried by the A* ekland Suburban Drainage i Board through u> the Waiteruata. Only , the eastern portion of Mount Roskill can be drained into the Manukau Harbour. The 1 matter will be considered at the next nieet- - ing of the board. Water Extension.—The Methodist College r Trust Board asked if the Road Board will lay a 4in water main to connect up with ' its property at "Waikowhai. The board's I engineer. Mr. J. D. Whitmore,. reported that r ' the reticulation would cost approximately i £900. Oh the motion of the chairman, the • I matter was deferred until the next meeting 1; to enable Mr. Whitmore to be present. I 1 A Record.—The clerk. Mr. J. Warren, j I reported the general account to be in credit " i £5103. This, lie said, constituted a record J for Mount Roskill. Outstanding ratea amount to '744. The three loan accounts are in credit £131 5/11, £239 IG/S, and £37 S/3. ' Building Permits.—The building Inspector reported that 20 permits for the erection of new buildings had been issued during j the fortnight, of the total value of £11.152. I There nre 50 dwellings In course of erection in teh district. Subdivision Declined.—The engineer reported that the land owned by Mr C Windust, fronting; Thrpo Kin?i Road "*A t not lend itself to a further enbdlvWon 'or j I residential purposes, consequently the i owner's application for permission to sub- » , divide his property as per plan submittefl I to tlje board was declined. Claim for Compensation.—A claim for compensation on account of the board's ' drainage operations on the Manukau fore- <" shore was received from Mrs. A Jones nmounting to £232 10/. made up as follows: I For loss of riparian rlshts £80. and general depreciation of her property, £152 10/. The = board decided not to admit liability In the 1 matter. Slot Tolephones.—Mr. W. J. Jordan, the j member for Mnnukau. reported that he was hopeful of getting three slot telephones s erected in the district shortly after the end I of the financial year. Mr. Jordan enclose* a ii letter from the Postmaster-General aa his warrant for cxnresslng this view. Koskill West.—Communications were reoe,ved from the Roskill West Ratepayers* 1 Association It was stated that White I i hwnn Road Is in had order, and the enel- _ I neer will insnect and report. A complaint was made that the water supply in that - neichbourhood was defective, stagnant water resulting from the main being a deadend without beins flushed. The chairman ' remarked that this main has only recently ' been nut in and will sn O n be remedied A. y pomplnint on the condition of.
