INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
■ • FINE OF £10. (From Our Ovru Correspondent.) MORRIXSVILLE, Tuesday. Vivian Henry George W.irk appeared before Messrs. C. M. Gummen and W. iT. Osborne, J's.P., on two charges of !of being intoxicated while in charge of ' a motor vehicle and the other of failI ing to produce his driving license when demanded. Wirk pleaded guilty to both charges. Constable JJackson said that he received a telephone message to the effect that a motor car was being driven l along the footpath of the main street. i When he went in search of the culprit jhe found accueecl vainly trying to get the car out of a water-tabie. Accused refused to get out of the car when asked to, 'and was pulled out by the ; constable and -put in the lock-up.' J Mr. C. McDavitt, who appeared for ! accused, said the brake bands on the car were loose, and the brakes refused jto act. When the cbnatable approached the accused thought the policeman was having a joke—until he was. landed jn the lock-up. Accused had at. first been unable to find his license, but had since discovered it, and it was produced in : court. Mr. McDavitt asked for leniency. Accused wae affected with lung trouble, and had to do outdoor work. On the charge of failing to produce I his license accused was convicted and '. discharged. • In connection with the , charge of being intoxicated while in charge of the motor car he was fined I £10, in default one month, and the license would be endorsed. A fortnight i was given in which to pay the fine. j The Bench remarked that the cafe was a -particularly bad one, but in view of i the special circumstances they would I extend, leniency.
