SCULLING.
MASON V. CERUTI. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WHANGAREI, this day. It is practically certain that a sculling match will eventuate on Whangarei Harbour about the end of May between Ceruti, professional sculler, of Australia, and J. Mason, of Onerahi. who is regarded as one of the best single scullers in the North. In the match on the Northern Wairoa River, In which McDevitt beat Darcy Hadfield. tbe local man. Mason, was third, followed by Ceruti. Opinion was then expressed that Mason pulled the cleanest stroke in the race. ! Recent oorrespocdpnce has resulted in Mt. It. Hornblow (ex-MH.vor of Dargaville). who was one of tbe prime movers in the Wairol I River championship meeting, receiving toj day a letter from Ceruti (who had been previously approached), intimating his willingness to meet Mason for a stake of £100,1 side, leaving the venue of the race to local organisation. Speaking to a reprpsentative of tht ■■Star" today. Jir. Hornblow was of opinion that the course on Whangarei Harbonr wal I ideal for this match, and lie was, assured that Mason would be agreeable to row then under the conditions previously stated.
