DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL.
CHAIRMAN DEFENDS "POI.ICY. AXD HAS LIVELY MEETIXG. i"v Telexr::;>h. —l'ress Association.) PALMERSTOX NORTH, Friday. A meeting of dairy farmers to-day to hear Mr. VV. ('rounds, chairman of the Control Hoard, defend its policy was attended by over 200 delegates from factories as far north as Hastings, and from all over the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts. After addresses by "Mr. Grounds and Mr. K. YV. Dalrymplc, a member of the board, discussion occupied two and a-half hours, becoming increasingly lively. Mr. Grounds was bombarded with questions and several attempts to bring the meeting to a close with a resolution were cried down. Only when tte major- , ity of those present were feeling the ! effects of delayed dinner was tho reso- : lution allowed. The vocal voting on j the motion, which was in support of i the board's policy, was so even that a ' show of hands was called for. ( A general and prolonged uproar foi- i lowed and the chairman had no opportunity of again putting the vote before the gathering broke up in disorder. The main points of Mr. Grounds' address were replies to criticism expressed by the opponents of absolute control, after which he dealt extensively with the press criticism to which i the board's policy had been subjected. Regarding the financing of the scheme he told the meeting that the board had received an assurance of support from •every London merchant approached by overseas delegates and he had no doubt that the necessary finance would be forthcoming. Allocations for distribution of supply had been made by the board and had been sent to the London manager for confirmation.
