"You will hear shortly," was . the Minister's reply. "To-night■ I return to Wellington, and to-morrow I shall have a long talk with the Prime Minister. 1 cannot say anything till I have seen Mr. Coates. It all-rests with him. The probabilities are. however, that an announcement will be made shortly— Within the next few days. ,.

'"It is expected that Sir James Parr's resignation as member for Eden will be handed to the Governor-General on Saturday. .As there will be.no Speaker of the present Parliament till the House meets the.. Governor-General will announce ■ the vacancy in the Gazette, directing the Clerk of Writs to issue a writ forthwith, returnable in 28 days/ The roll's will close on the issue of the wr_it. and 12 days' notice of the polling date wilj' be given."
