BAIL AGAIN REFUSED.
CHEF TO REMAIN IN GAOL. HAD XOT ASSISTED POLICE. At the present time the Auckland police have a man aged 39, a chef, under arrest on a charge of breaking ami entering the shop of Hart's, in Queen Street, and committing a crime therein. Accused appeared in Court on Monday last, and was remanded. His name was ordered to be suppressed in the meantime. "When application for bail was made it was refused. This morning accused was brought down from the gaol, when Mr. Alan Moody asked that bail should be allowed. Accused, he said, was a married man with a family, and could return to work if he was allowed his liberty until Monday, when the case would he heard.
Chief Detective Cummings opposed bail, stating that accused had not assisted the police. So far very little property had been recovered. For gome time past things have been missed from Hart's shop, so on Sunday two detectives remained in the shop to watch. Accused walked right into the trap, although it was the first time the detectives had watched the place. Mr. Moody replied that accused could not assist the police any further. Ffe had not disposed of any "property, therefore there was no way in which lie could assist the nolicc.
