SCHOONER KAIMILOA RETURNED.
j FISHING TRIP TO RUSSELL. j I The privately-owned American pleasure schooner Kaimiloa. which first arrived at Auckland towards the end of j last year, returned to port this morn- ! ing from Blomfield's Bay, Russell, ! where her owner, Mr. M. *R. Kellum, I and a party of Aueklanders, had made j their headquarters during a fortnight's deep-sea fishing. The Kaimiloa left Auckland on Febj ruary IS, and arrived at Russell the j following day. Thence the schooner j proceeded to an anchorage in Blomficld's Bay. Mr. Kellum and his guests! did their fishing , from the four launches i belonging to the schooner, and also from a launch hired in Russell. The grounds off Cape Brett and Bird Island were tried, the anglers meeting with fair I success. Five swordfish and one mako shark were caught by the party during the j stay, the largest swardfish. which! j turned the scales at 3241b, being taken: !by Mr. D. Lawford. Kingsfih and small | j sharks were very plentiful. Fine wea-1 I tlier was experienced for the greater i part of the time, and the party 1 thoroughly enjoyed the fishing. i On Tuesday of next week Mr. Kellum, i accompanied by his family, will leave i ; Auckland for Rotorua. Mr. Kellum in- j ] tends to spend about two weeks trout I . fishing at Lake Taupo, and will then :go on to Wellington. Here Mr. Kellum, I junior, will join a steamer for Tahiti, i j Mr. and Mrs. Kellum will then return !to Auckland, where they will rejoin the I Kaimiloa. The schooner is expected to | : sail from this port for Noumea early I j next month.
