• ! OLD COLONIST'S DEATH. [ MRS. G. S. THOMSON. A colonist of nearly 50 years' standing, Mrs. Amy Thomson, died at her residence, Burwood Crescent, Eemuera, | on February 28, aged SO years. De- [ ceased was born in England, and was a i daughter of Major William Codd, of the I 48th Regiment. She arrived in New Zealand 40 years ago and was married i at Farnell to Mr. George S. Thomson, j who was one of the Matakohe settlers, arriving in New Zealand by the ship Gertrude. Mrs. Thomson was a true ! helpmate and companion to her hus- ' band, nobly enduring the hardships of \ life in the back country in the early I days. * J In later life Mr. and Mrs. Thomson settled at Otahuhu, giving the name "Middlemore" to their farm, part of i which is now the golf club. Mrs. i Thomson has predeceased her husband I her gon, Mr. W. R. M. Thomson, her two daughters, Mrs. F. C. Mappin, Mountain Road,, and Mrs. M. G. Mc- , Arthur, St. Helier's Bay. MRS. M. A. LEVESQUE. A highly esteemed resident of Birkdale, Mrs. Mary Ann Levesque, died at her residence, Salisbury Road, yesterday, at the advanced age of 85 years. Deceased! was born in Hampshire, England. For! some years she lived at Jersey and was ! married to Mr. James Stanley" Levesque. j They arrived at Tasmania in 1884, and; from there went to Australia, where! they remained for 15 years. Coming; across to Auckland, Mr. and Mrs. Leves° que lived at Birkdale for a while, and! afterwards at Cambridge. About three ' years ago they returned to Birkdale to ' reside. Deceased is survived by her i husband, and the following children: I Messrs J. D., and C. F. Levesque, of AuclSand. J. H. Levesque, of Whangarei.' J. \\ . and R. P. Levesque. of Cambridge.' SEYMOUR. A well-known man in shipping circles. Captain J. Seymour, of Northern Wairoa, died on Tuesday at the residence of his daughter. Mrs". J. Condon. Deceased would have attained his Slst birthday had he lived to the 26th of this month. . Captain Seymour arrived at Northern Wairoa in IS7S. as master and part owner of the s.s. Tangihua. and by Ills enterprise assisted in the development of the district, when timber and gum were the main industries. He was interested in many ventures, with barges and rafting steamers. He was a director of the first Northern Wairoa Timber Company, Ltd.. and later of the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Co. A farmer himself, Captain Seymour did good service as a director of the dairy company, from 1011 to 1024. The shipping interests of the company had his special attention. Tt was only failing health that caused him to retire from the board of directors of the dairy company a couple of years ago. Captain Seymour is survived by his son. Mr. J. R. Seymour, cf Te Kopuru. Mrs. J. Condon, of Dargaville, and Mrs. G. W. Moore, of Kaitaia. i I
