INTO A TRAP.
CHARGE AGAINST A CHEF. ALLEGED BREAKING AND I ENTERING. | j At the Police Court this morning, an j hotel chef, a middle aged man, appeared on a charge of breaking and entering. the premises of Hart's, in Queen Street, ' by day and committing a crime therein. When accused was remanded until March 8, his counsel asked that bail be allowed, and also that in the meantime that his name should be suppresed. Chief Detective Cummings, who opposed bail, stated that for some time past goods have been disappearing from Hart's. | Yesterday a trap was set and accused was arrested in the shop. Accused who was a chef at an hotel, came out of the kitchen, went into the yard and after! unlocking the padlock on Hart's door and I taking the hasp off with a screw driver. < entered the shop. He was caught in the act of taking goods. Under the circumstances the magistrate refused to grant bail, but con- ; sented to order for the suppression of, accused's name. j
