BARQUENTINE SOLD.
THE LOUIS THERfAULT. QUEENSLAND FIRM'S PURCHASE. TO ENTER FIJIAN TRADE. The barquentine Louis Theriault, which is well known at Auckland and oilier New Zealand ports, has been sold lo Queensland buyers, and will shortly be h.<n<!ed over to her new owners. The Ljuis Theriault, which is one of the finest-looking barquentines seen at Auckland within recent years, was built by L. Theriault, who gave her his own name. She was launched from Nova Scotian yards in 1918, and was originally intended for the American flax and wool trade. Later, however, she was bought by an Australian firm, and made her first visit to New Zealand in 1921. Three years ago she again changed hands, Captain A. F. Watchlin, 0.8. E., R.D., R.N.R., taking her over. Since that date she has been employed in the timber trade between Australian ports and Kopu, and has also visited Wanganui, Wellington, and New Plymouth.
The Louis Tlieriault, which is at present undergoing an extensive overhaul and being fitted with auxiliary engines at the Xorth 'Wall, wiU in future be employed in carrying timber between Fiji and Queensland ports. She has alreadyproved herself an excellent vessel for this type of trade and as she will have auxiliary power' should make regular passages in her new trade. The Louia Theriault, which has always sailed well during the years she has been engaged in the inter-colonial trade, is one of the few sailing vessels in Australasian waters to carry a 100A1 classification. She was anchored in the stream at Auckland for several weeks about Christmas time and recently underwent cleaning and painting in the dock. She is expected to be ready for sea by the beginning of April.
