WILKINS' POLAR FLIGHT.
THE SUPPLY TRAIN. SNOW-MOTORS A FAILURE. NEW YORK, February 26. A message from Fairbanks, Alaska, states that Captain G. H. Wilkins' transPolar supply expedition to Point Barrow by snow-motors has been called back. The motors which were being used to haul the sledges have broken down repeatedly. They could only negotiate 70 miles in two weeks of the 700-miles trial to Point Barrow. It was obvioi',3, therefore, that the supplies would not have reached their destination in time to be of assistance for the flight. The aeroplanes have arrived at Fairbanks and will remain there for three weeks preparing equipment and making test flights preparatory to the Polar flight which will be attempted about March 21. It is probable that the supplies will be carried to Point Barrow by aeroplane.—(Reuter.)
